Agriculture Investment

  • The European Union and FAO along with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) signed US $14m deal in a bid to tackle global food security. The agreements were finalized by EU Commissioner in charge of International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, and FAO Director-General, Jose Graziano da Silva.

  • “The consequences of so many people going to bed without a proper meal are manifold”, said TAU SA General Manager Bennie van Zyl, keynote speaker at a recent international conference on agriculture in Cape Town sponsored by Agri-Food-Aqua of London, England.

  • In Africa, having the largest cattle herd is not always a predictor of being the biggest beef or milk producer. Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya are the top five countries with the largest cattle herds in Africa.

  • A survey released last week by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) confirms what many around the country already fear: the poor rains in the first half of the season and their inconsistency in the second have driven away farmers from the fields, blighted crops and left livestock teetering on the brink.
