Early July data from the Central Energy Fund points to a second straight monthly cut in August: petrol ~R2.50/litre down, diesel ~R3.51/litre down. It’s still early and slate levies could change the final figure, but the over-recovery puts prices on track for relief after Treasury’s fuel levy relief ended. South Africa’s fruit export industry started on 13 January 1892 with the first peach shipment to the UK. Today, over 60% of annual fruit production goes to 100+ markets. In 2024/25, the country produced 6.74 million tons and exported 4.41 million tons, excluding mangoes and litchis. Staying competitive in the Southern Hemisphere requires market intelligence, value-chain collaboration, and government cooperation.

Analysts are concerned about the expected strong El Niño and its possible effects on South Africa’s agriculture and food prices in 2027. The phenomenon is forecast to affect the 2026-27 summer crop season starting in October. Two important factors may soften the impact. Country has benefited from recent longer-than-normal La Niña rainfall, which has significantly improved soil moisture and dam levels.

South Africa’s vehicle exports dropped 6.9% in June to 33,879 units, down from 36,377 a year earlier. But domestic sales were strong, hitting their best June since 2007 with 54,482 units sold, up 15.3% year on year.

  • A-grade carcass: R55–R62 per kg
  • B-grade carcass: R48–R54 per kg
  • Weaner calves: R38–R42 per kg (live weight)
Demand is steady, supported by winter seasonal buying, but high prices are limiting volume growth.Lamb & Mutton
Lamb and mutton prices are strong, driven by limited supply and good winter demand.
  • Lamb carcass (A-grade): R85–R95 per kg
  • Mutton carcass: R68–R75 per kg
Prices are expected to stay elevated in the short term.Pork
Pork prices are relatively stable but under some pressure from increased supply.
  • Porker carcass: R32–R36 per kg
  • Baconer carcass: R28–R32 per kg
Pork remains the more affordable red meat option for many consumers.Chicken
Chicken prices are under pressure due to good local supply and competition from imports.
  • Whole bird (frozen): R28–R32 per kg
  • IQF portions: R35–R40 per kg
Chicken continues to be the most affordable protein, helping to keep overall meat inflation in check.Overall Market Tone
Red meat (especially beef and lamb) prices are firm to strong due to disease-related supply constraints, while chicken and pork offer more affordable options. Local production remains below consumption, with imports from countries such as Germany, Australia, and the US filling the gap.Soybeans
Soybeans are trading near recent highs supported by strong crushing demand.
  • Spot price: R9,200 – R9,800 per ton
Record local production is being well absorbed by the domestic processing industry, with limited surplus for export.Sunflower Seed
Sunflower seed prices are stable as local production meets crushing demand.
  • Spot price: R8,500 – R9,200 per ton
Supplies are balanced, with little room for large-scale exports.Overall Market Tone
South Africa’s grain and oilseed markets are well-supplied for the 2026 marketing year, especially in maize and soybeans. This is helping to moderate food price inflation. Wheat remains the main import-dependent crop, making it more sensitive to international prices and exchange rate movements. Prices across most commodities are expected to stay range-bound in the near term, supported by large local harvests but capped by steady demand and export opportunities.

Summary: Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Situation in South Africa – 20 June 2026-

WATCH OUT- NEW program on the way - exclusive to CRA MEDIA and the FARMERS of South Africa - 2026

July is expected to be a typical South African winter month, with generally dry conditions across most of the country, cold mornings inland, and wetter weather over parts of the Western Cape. Temperatures are likely to be close to seasonal averages, although occasional cold fronts may bring short-lived colder conditions.

Inland Provinces (Gauteng, Free State, North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga)

  • Mostly dry weather with very little rainfall.
  • Cold mornings and nights, with occasional frost in colder areas.
  • Daytime temperatures generally between 17°C and 23°C.
  • Overnight temperatures commonly between 2°C and 8°C.
  • Pretoria is expected to average around 20–21°C during the day and 8°C at night, with very limited rainfall.

Western Cape

  • The wettest region of South Africa during July.
  • Regular cold fronts are expected to bring rain to the Cape Town region and surrounding agricultural areas.
  • Cooler temperatures with daytime highs mostly between 14°C and 19°C.
  • Mountain areas could experience occasional snowfall during stronger cold fronts.

 KwaZulu-Natal & Eastern Coast

  • Mild winter conditions.
  • Mostly sunny days with occasional light rain.
  • Durban temperatures likely to range from 13°C to 21°C.
  • Pleasant winter weather expected along much of the coast.

Bushveld & Wildlife Areas

  • Excellent game-viewing conditions in areas such as Kruger National Park.
  • Dry vegetation and limited water sources make wildlife easier to spot.
  • Daytime temperatures generally between 22°C and 26°C, with cool mornings.

 Impact on Agriculture

  • Dry conditions will support harvesting activities in many summer grain-producing regions.
  • Western Cape grain and livestock farmers will benefit from winter rainfall replenishing soil moisture.
  • Frost risk remains a concern for sensitive crops in inland provinces.
  • Lower diesel prices compared with earlier peaks may provide some relief, although many farming input costs remain elevated.

Outlook for July 2026

✔ Mostly dry and sunny across most of South Africa.
✔ Cold mornings and nights inland.
✔ Regular rain-bearing cold fronts for the Western Cape.
✔ Good harvesting and livestock conditions in many agricultural regions.
✔ Excellent wildlife-viewing conditions in the Lowveld and Bushveld areas.

July 2026 is expected to be a classic South African winter month—dry, sunny, and cool across the interior, while the Western Cape receives most of the country's winter rainfall. Farmers should remain alert for frost in inland areas and colder conditions associated with passing cold fronts.

Summary: South African Fertilizer Prices – July 2026
South African fertilizer prices are expected to remain relatively stable during July 2026. After significant volatility in recent years, the market has settled into a calmer phase. Global supply chains have normalised, and lower international oil and gas prices have reduced production costs for major nitrogen-based fertilizers.Current Price Levels (approximate, Rand per ton):
  • Urea: R8,500 – R9,200
  • MAP: R12,500 – R13,500
  • DAP: R13,000 – R14,000
  • Potassium Chloride (MOP): R7,800 – R8,500
Key Factors Supporting Stability:
  • Adequate global supply
  • A relatively stable rand against the US dollar
  • Lower shipping costs compared to previous years
  • Steady demand from local farmers ahead of the new planting season
While prices are expected to stay range-bound in the short term, any major disruption in global energy markets or significant currency movement could quickly change the outlook. Farmers are advised to lock in orders where possible to secure current levels.

National Overview

OOM KERNEELS

Vandag gesels ek in Afrikaans.

OOM Kerneels.
