South Africa’s FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 as well as a unique line-up of Slovenian wines will be in the spotlight at this year’s Sauvignon Blanc SA Technical Seminar at Allée Bleue, Franschhoek on Wednesday 20 November 2019.

This annual event, sponsored by FNB, will share the latest insights on Sauvignon Blanc, SA’s top-selling wine variety, with stakeholders from across the wine industry spectrum. The seminar is renowned as a ‘must-attend’ technical event, empowering the industry with the know-how to enhance its competitiveness in a rapidly growing market segment.

Distinguished experts from SA and abroad will discuss a host of subjects ranging from the latest in research to consumer and industry insights:

  • Staša Bizjak, Founder and Editor-in-chief at The Third Wine, will present an overview of Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by an exclusive tasting of Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc wines
  • “Cost = yield per ton” is a thought-provoking topic by Charles Hopkins, De Grendel Wine Estate Cellar Master, and a judge of the 2019 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition
  • Dr Tara Southey, of the Centre for Geographical Analysis at Stellenbosch University, will offer a Western Cape perspective on climate change
  • Dr Nadia van der Colff, of Consumer Solutions, will talk about Sauvignon Blanc from a consumer perspective
  • Dr Carien Coetzee, of Basic Wine, will give feedback about this year’s FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition, the only local wine competition exclusively dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc. There will also be an informal tasting of the Top 10 winning wines.

“The FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition is a testament to the depth of wine-making talent we have in South Africa and the remarkable quality of wine in this year’s competition has been exemplary. The Technical Seminar encourages constructive engagement which will no doubt continue to promote excellence and innovation in the winemaking industry,” says Stephan Claassen, Provincial Head FNB Business Western Cape.
