Rapidly falling renewable-energy costs, together with emerging opportunities to electrify other energy end-uses such as transportation and heating, are continuing to reduce the investment premium associated with placing the world on a more climate-friendly path, a new international report highlights.
The waste biomass sector has been boosted with the establishment of a biorefinery research consortium (BRC) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), to create new value chains from waste biomass.
The consortium is a partnership between the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Tshwane University of Technology, the University of the Witwatersrand, and Sekolong Sa Dimelana, a rural-based bioenterprise.
