The breeders of the best mohair clip in the world, Jordi and Gay van Hasselt from Prince Albert turned the world upside down on Thursday (13/ 01/20).

They presented their annual Angora stud ram sale (85 rams) under terrible circumstances, as it is in the middle of the drought, farmers have no money and fibre prices are dropping.

The House of Fibre General Manager, Pierre Van der Vyver, said: “First of all, it is a privilege to do the marketing of the clip and the rams of the van Hasselt’s, but the quality of this offering was something even more special, which is also the reason for the best ram on the sale fetching R80 000.” This ram weighed 93kg and tested 40 microns. SAMIL Farming from Port Elizabeth was the buyer, of this ram priced at R80 000, making it the best price in 5 years, for Angora ram sales. The average price of the rams on auction sat at R11 700/ per ram, also making it the best average ever.

South African farmers, in general, are a special breed of farmers. Under the worst possible circumstances, with no support, they are excelling in this case, to be the best in the world!
