In the context of international wildlife trade, this assumption sits at the core of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. For over five decades, the Convention has structured global exchanges in wildlife by defining the conditions under which trade may occur, and the administrative safeguards intended to contain its risks.
Livestock farmers in Mpumalanga are deeply frustrated over major delays in the distribution of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines. Although the province received 61,000 doses, only 33,000 cattle have been vaccinated so far, leaving more than 28,000 doses still sitting in storage while the disease continues to spread.
Current published prices show the Aftodoll vaccine from Dollvet in Türkiye costs about R45 per dose. The Bioaftogen vaccine from Biogénesis Bagó in Argentina is priced between R45 and R55 per dose, depending on the supplier and logistics. Farmers who do not want to buy privately will still be able to get vaccines through the government’s vaccination programme.
