- Globally, about 70 percent of anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, most of which are carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, come from cities. High- and upper-middle income countries contribute significantly to these emissions. However, cities in lower-income countries, which account for only ~14% of all global urban CO2 emissions, will face most of the climate change-related hazards.

- Studies indicate that less than 10% of African farmers (including South Africa) use AI tools, with South Africa slightly ahead at around 5–15% among commercial farmers (Brookings Institution, 2024; World Bank, 2025).
- Transnet is working to rebuild freight volumes after years of decline and has set a target of 180 million tonnes for rail. Volumes are rising but more slowly than hoped, with the past financial year expected to reach around 167.9 million tonnes.
