Earth is hotter than it has been in 125 000 years, but deadly heatwaves, storms and floods amplified by global warming could be but a foretaste as planet-heating fossil fuels put a "liveable" future at risk. Greenhouse gas emissions must drop 43% by 2030 - and 84% by mid-century - to stay within the threshold. And yet, emissions have continued to rise. The world is very likely to overshoot the 1.5°C limit, even if temporarily. Every fraction of a degree counts. At 1.5°C of warming, 14% of terrestrial species will face an extinction risk. If temperatures rise to 2°C, 99% of warm-water coral reefs - home to a quarter of marine life - will perish, and staple food crops will decline.
ʼn Wegbreeknaweek vir twee by Gondwana-privaatwildreservaat. ʼn Bemarkingsvideo deur Lucentlands. La Motte-wyn.
Urban agriculture as a global phenomenon is widely promoted as a sustainable land use practice. On small plots and in big projects, using sophisticated technology or simple solutions, city dwellers around the world are producing food. Growing food in a city can improve local food security and express local culture,The eight farm types emerged from the way they use space (planted in soil or on/in buildings), the level of control over growing conditions (like ambient temperature, light, nutrients, water and air flow), and the use of other resources. The latter may be waste sources (such as waste water, bio-matter or waste heat), internet and connectivity networks, and human labour (such as the immediate community).
Across the continent, over half of Africa’s white and a third of its black rhino occurred on private land in 2021. An additional 5% of the continent’s black rhino were held on communal land in Namibia and South Africa. Despite having suffered considerable poaching losses, South Africa remains home to the largest number of white rhino (81%) on the continent, as well as around a third of the remaining black rhino. Food price pressures that have beset Zimbabwe have persisted, giving the Southern African country the unenviable position of having the world’s worst inflation, despite some slight moderation, a recent report by the World Bank showed. The World Bank said that Zimbabwe’s CPI eased to 92,3% year-on-year (y/y) in February 2023, down from the prior month’s 229,8% y/y increase, and moving further away from the 18-month high of 285% registered in August 2022.
Chlorophyll, the most abundant pigment in plants, is responsible for the bright green color associated with juiced greens such as kale, celery, and cannabis. Chlorophyll has been studied for years for its role in health promotion. With its structure similar to that of hemoglobin in the blood, chlorophyll has plenty of other benefits including preventing DNA damage, promoting detoxification within the body, treating inflammation, and possibly helping prevent certain types of cancer.5 Compared with traditionally dried and cured cannabis flower, raw cannabis leaves and flower buds retain the most chlorophyll.
