It has become clear that farm workers are increasingly targeted in attacks on farms. This is most probably because criminals believe that victims have already received their annual bonusses and that there are therefore more cash in possession of farm workers.
“Farmers are requested to warm workers not to withdraw all funds from their bank accounts, as seem to be the case”, warns Mr Henry Geldenhuys, Deputy President of TAU SA and Chairman of the Security and Safety Committee. “It is important that the benefit after a years’ hard work is not put at risk by having too much cash which could attract the attention of bad company with criminal intentions”, according to Mr Geldenhuys.
“At the same time, we also need to remind farmers and their families not to relax their security awareness while engaged in social interaction with family, neighbours and friends during the festive season. Too many lives have been lost and serious injuries sustained in the past in surprise attacks by criminals.
