Many people only realise how important muscle is when they begin to lose it. This loss, which naturally occurs with ageing if we do not stay active, can affect far more than physical strength. It influences how the body produces energy, controls blood sugar, maintains balance, and supports overall health.
One of muscle's most important jobs is helping regulate blood sugar. After you eat, your muscles absorb a large proportion of the glucose from your bloodstream, where it is either used for energy or stored for later use. Healthy muscle tissue helps the body maintain normal blood sugar levels and supports good metabolic health.
Muscles also produce natural substances known as myokines whenever you move. These signalling molecules help different organs communicate with one another and play a role in regulating normal inflammation, supporting immune function, and maintaining healthy metabolism. Scientists continue to discover new ways these substances contribute to overall wellbeing.

Sunlight – An Essential Part of Human Health
Sunlight is far more than simply a source of light and warmth. It is one of the body's most important environmental signals, helping to regulate many biological processes that influence health, energy, and overall wellbeing.
Exposure to natural morning sunlight helps set the body's internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. This daily rhythm regulates sleep, hormone production, energy levels, metabolism, digestion, immune function, and mental alertness. Morning sunlight also stimulates the production of serotonin, often called the "feel-good" chemical, which helps regulate mood and is later converted into melatonin, the hormone responsible for healthy sleep.
Sunlight also plays a vital role in the production of vitamin D. When the skin is exposed to sufficient ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, it naturally produces vitamin D, which is essential for healthy bones, immune function, muscle health, and many other processes throughout the body. At the same time, it is important to enjoy sunlight sensibly and avoid sunburn, which increases the risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
Another important area of research is the relationship between sunlight and the mitochondria, the tiny structures inside our cells that produce energy. Studies suggest that certain wavelengths of red and near-infrared light may help support mitochondrial function and cellular energy production, although scientists continue to investigate these effects.
Research also suggests that sunlight may benefit cardiovascular health by stimulating the release of nitric oxide from the skin. This natural compound helps relax blood vessels and may contribute to healthy blood pressure. Sunlight is also believed to influence immune function, brain health, hormone balance, and emotional wellbeing.
Modern lifestyles often keep people indoors for most of the day under artificial lighting. Spending more time outdoors, particularly in natural daylight, may help restore the healthy biological rhythms that humans have developed over thousands of years.

In my many years of practice, one of the most common issues I see is people who appear hydrated on the outside but whose bodies are actually dry and lacking sufficient fluid on the inside. This internal dehydration has become a widespread problem.
The combination of high alcohol intake, excessive sugar, coffee, energy drinks and refined carbohydrates, and a lack of regular physical movement is making our bodies drier and “colder” internally. This affects the function of many organs, especially the digestive system, spleen, liver, and kidneys. These organs work best when they are warm and well-hydrated.
One of the most important reasons to stay properly hydrated is the lymphatic system. Your lymph needs fluid to work effectively. The lymphatic system is like the body’s drainage and cleaning network — it removes toxins, waste products, and excess fluid from tissues. Unlike the heart, which pumps blood, the lymphatic system has no pump. It relies on movement and sufficient fluid to circulate.When you are internally dehydrated, lymph flow becomes sluggish. Toxins and waste build up, the immune system weakens, and you may feel tired, swollen, or more prone to illness.

The spleen, which plays a key role in immunity and blood health, also suffers. The digestive system becomes sluggish, leading to issues like bloating, constipation, and poor nutrient uptake.

The Thymus Gland – The Small Organ That Trains Your Immune System
One of the things that has always surprised me during my seminars and in my consultation rooms is how few people know anything about the thymus gland. When I ask clients if they have ever heard of it, most simply shake their heads. Yet the thymus is one of the most important organs in the human body because it plays a central role in developing and regulating the immune system.
Most people know where their heart is. They know about the liver, kidneys, lungs, and even the pancreas. But very few have ever been taught about the thymus, despite the fact that it is responsible for training the immune cells that help protect us against viruses, bacteria, infections, and abnormal cells throughout our lives.
I often tell my clients that the thymus is like a military academy. It takes young immune cells and trains them to become highly specialised T cells that know how to recognise harmful invaders while leaving healthy body tissues alone. Without this training, the immune system would not function properly.
Although it is relatively small, the thymus plays a vital role in protecting your body against viruses, bacteria, infections, and even abnormal cells. Without a healthy thymus during childhood, your immune system would never develop properly.
The thymus is located in the upper chest, just behind your breastbone and in front of your heart. It is most active during childhood and the teenage years. During this time, it acts as a training centre for one of the body's most important immune cells, known as T lymphocytes, or simply T cells.
Your digestive system also plays an important role. A healthy gut supports a healthy immune system because a large proportion of the body's immune activity is closely linked to the intestines. Eating a balanced diet that includes vegetables, fruit, whole grains, quality protein, healthy fats, and sufficient fibre helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome.
Regular physical activity also benefits your immune system. Exercise improves blood circulation, allowing immune cells to move more efficiently throughout the body. Even a daily walk can make a positive difference.
Sleep is equally important. During sleep, your body repairs tissues, balances hormones, and strengthens immune function. Most adults need between seven and nine hours of good-quality sleep each night to support overall health.
Managing stress is another important part of maintaining a healthy immune system. Long-term stress can interfere with normal immune function through increased stress hormones such as cortisol. Taking time to relax, spend time outdoors, enjoy hobbies, and maintain strong social connections can all contribute to better health.
Avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption are also important. Smoking damages many parts of the immune system and increases the risk of numerous diseases. Excessive alcohol can weaken the body's natural defences and reduce its ability to fight infection.
Your immune system is far more complex than simply trying to "boost" it. It depends on healthy cells, efficient communication between those cells, proper energy production, balanced inflammation, good nutrition, quality sleep, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Cancer isn’t just a tumor to be cut, burned, or blasted away. We must find the root cause—the environment in our body that forces cancer cells to grow. Cancer cells form because the body’s conditions make them find a way to survive. To understand the suffering and emotional stress of a cancer patient, it needs to hit close to home, like your child, mother, father, or husband. They need your support and much more to survive. We need to stop thinking of cancer as only a tumor and focus on what causes it.

Calcium is one of the most heavily promoted nutrients in the world. For decades, people have been told to drink more milk and take calcium supplements to build strong bones. But this standard advice is incomplete and, in many cases, has actually caused harm.Calcium is very important. It helps build bones, supports muscle contraction, nerve function, blood clotting, and cell signalling.
The problem is not calcium itself, but what happens when we take it on its own, especially in high doses from supplements. Without the right support, extra calcium can end up in the wrong places — such as the arteries, heart, and kidneys — instead of strengthening bones. This can raise the risk of heart disease, kidney stones, and even bone fractures.
True bone health depends on a whole team of nutrients and lifestyle factors working together. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium properly. Vitamin K2 acts like a traffic director, sending calcium to the bones and keeping it out of the arteries. Magnesium supports bone structure and helps control calcium levels. Other important players include collagen, protein, vitamin C, zinc, copper, silicon, boron, and a good balance of phosphorus. Regular exercise, especially resistance training, and healthy hormone levels also play a big role.
Studies show that calcium supplements alone often give limited benefits for preventing fractures. In fact, countries with the highest calcium intake sometimes have higher fracture rates. This is known as the calcium paradox. Dietary calcium from real food generally does not carry the same risks as supplements.The best approach is to get most of your calcium from food. Good sources include dairy products, sardines with bones, low-oxalate leafy greens like kale and broccoli, tahini, and calcium-set tofu.
Spread your intake across the day rather than taking it all at once.If you do need a supplement, keep the dose modest (no more than 500 mg of elemental calcium at a time) and always combine it with vitamin D, vitamin K2, and magnesium.
Resistance exercise and good overall health are just as important as nutrition.In short, bone health is not just about calcium. It is about a complete ecosystem of nutrients, hormones, and daily habits. Focusing only on calcium while ignoring everything else can do more harm than good.
Why are all these "clever" people in health shops and certain Doctors giving out calcium carbonate? Nobody seems to know. If you're taking it, please throw it away. It will block your arteries and stop the things that calcium is supposed to heal, like so-called osteoporosis.

Every Cell Has a Job to Do
Health and disease begin at the cellular level. While medicine often focuses on organs such as the heart, brain, thyroid, or immune system, every organ is simply a collection of specialised cells. The way these cells function ultimately determines our health.
Every cell has essential tasks to perform: generating energy, receiving information, processing that information correctly, communicating with other cells, and responding appropriately to its environment. These processes rely on a complex system known as cell signalling, where cells continuously exchange information through hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokines, and other chemical messengers.
For cells to function efficiently, they require adequate energy, healthy enzymes, and the nutrients that support these biochemical processes. Vitamins and minerals are not merely supplements—they are vital components of the cellular machinery. Nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, folate, vitamin B12, and riboflavin play critical roles in energy production, DNA repair, immune regulation, and cellular communication.
The immune system provides a clear example of this complexity. Immune cells must accurately identify threats, coordinate responses, eliminate harmful invaders, and then switch inflammation off once the threat has passed. Mast cells, which act as the body's first responders, also depend on efficient cellular signalling and energy production to regulate inflammation properly.
Similarly, the body continuously monitors and repairs damaged cells through processes such as DNA repair, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and immune surveillance. These systems help maintain cellular integrity and are among the most energy-demanding functions in the body.
When cells lack the nutrients required to support these processes, they do not immediately stop working. Instead, they may become less efficient, leading to reduced energy production, impaired communication, slower repair mechanisms, and less effective regulation of inflammation and immune responses.
Complex diseases such as autoimmune disorders, chronic inflammatory conditions, and cancer have multiple causes and cannot be explained by nutrient deficiencies alone. However, it raises an important question: Can cells consistently perform their functions optimally if they do not have the nutritional support required for the biochemical reactions on which they depend?
Understanding health begins with understanding healthy cellular function. Every cell in the body depends on adequate biochemical support to generate energy, communicate effectively, repair damage, regulate inflammation, and maintain overall wellbeing. Healthy cells form the foundation of a healthy body.

Why High Vitamin Levels in Blood Tests May Not Tell the Whole Story
Many people are surprised when a blood test shows high levels of vitamin B12 or another vitamin, even though they only take a small supplement. A high blood level does not always mean the body is using that nutrient efficiently.

A blood test measures what is circulating in the bloodstream at that moment, but it does not show how much of the vitamin has entered the body's cells, been converted into its active form, or is actually being used. A useful way to think about this is to imagine the bloodstream as a motorway. The vitamins are the cars, and the cells are the destination. If there is a blockage further down the road, traffic builds up on the motorway. Likewise, nutrients may remain in the blood if they are not being transported into cells or used effectively.

For a vitamin to do its job, it must first be absorbed, then transported into cells, and finally activated. These processes depend on healthy cell function, adequate energy production, and the presence of other vitamins and minerals that work together as cofactors. Factors such as inflammation, illness, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, or certain genetic variations may reduce the body's ability to use nutrients efficiently.

Vitamin B12 is one example. It works together with nutrients such as folate, vitamins B2 and B6, magnesium, iron, and copper. If one or more of these nutrients is lacking, B12-related processes may not function optimally, even if blood levels appear high.

The same principle applies to other nutrients. High folate, vitamin B6, ferritin, or vitamin D levels should always be interpreted alongside other blood tests, symptoms, medical history, and overall health. Looking at a single laboratory result in isolation can be misleading.

The key message is that the body functions as an interconnected system rather than a collection of individual nutrients. Sometimes a high blood level reflects a bottleneck elsewhere in the body's metabolic pathways rather than an excess of that nutrient. Blood tests provide valuable information, but they are only one part of understanding how well the body's complex biochemical systems are functioning.
