The USDA published the 14th Crop Progress report of the 2026 growing season. Here’s a look at the latest progress and condition numbers.
Corn
As of July 5, 16% of this year’s corn crop in the top 18 corn-growing states had reached the silking stage. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 14%.
It was the first week the department reported corn dough progress. As of July 5, 3% of the corn crop across seven states had reached the dough stage. The five-year average is 2%.
The condition of the nation’s corn crop for the week ending July 5 was as follows:
- Good/excellent: 67%
- Fair: 25%
- Poor/very poor: 8%
Last week at this time, 67% of the corn crop also was in good/excellent condition. Last year at this time, 74% of the corn crop was in good/excellent condition.
Soybeans
As of July 5, 34% of the soybean crop in the nation’s top 18 soybean-growing states had reached the blooming stage. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 28%.
Across 16 states, 9% of soybeans were setting pods as of July 5, ahead of the five-year average of 6%.
The condition of the nation’s soybean crop for the week that ended July 5 was as follows:
- Good/excellent: 64%
- Fair: 28%
- Poor/very poor: 8%
Last week at this time, 65% of the soybean crop was in good/excellent condition. Last year at this time, 66% of the soybean crop was in good/excellent condition.
Winter Wheat
The USDA reported 59% of the winter wheat crop across 17 of the top 18 winter wheat-growing states had been harvested, ahead of the five-year average of 51%
Winter wheat condition for the week that ended July 5 was as follows:
- Good/excellent: 26%
- Fair: 27%
- Poor/very poor: 47%
Last week at this time, 26% of the winter wheat crop was in good/excellent condition. Last year at this time, 48% of the winter wheat crop was in good/excellent condition.
Spring Wheat
In the top six spring-wheat-growing states, 54% of the crop had headed as of July 5, level with the five-year average.
The condition of the nation’s spring wheat crop for the week that ended July 5 was as follows:
- Good/excellent: 57%
- Fair: 36%
- Poor/very poor: 7%
Last week at this time, 59% of the spring wheat crop was in good/excellent condition. Last year at this time, 50% of the spring wheat crop was in good/excellent condition.
Oats
Across the nine top oat-growing states, 86% of the crop had headed, ahead of the five-year average of 81%.
The oat crop condition for the week that ended July 5 was as follows:
- Good/excellent: 53%
- Fair: 28%
- Poor/very poor: 19%
Last week at this time, 52% of the oat crop was in good/excellent condition. Last year at this time, 60% of the oat crop was in good/excellent condition.
