In the last quarter of 2024, South Africa's non-agricultural sector saw a modest employment increase of 12,000 jobs, bringing the total to 10.64 million by December, a 0.1% rise from September’s 10.628 million. The trade, business services, transport, and electricity sectors drove this growth, adding 42,000, 22,000, 2,000, and 1,000 jobs respectively. However, job losses occurred in community services (-26,000), manufacturing (-13,000), construction (-13,000), and mining (-3,000).

Citrusdal is a seemingly idyllic farming town named after the fruit it grows. Nestled in a valley at the base of the Western Cape's Cederberg mountains, it's home to rows and rows of orange and lemon trees. The tangerines in the orchards are still as green as the leaves. Harvest will come in July and August, then the fruit will be picked and boxed for export to the UK, Europe and the US. READ MORE -
South Africa must build on the positive sentiment currently evident in agriculture and agribusiness by implementing long-standing plans and tackling the long-term growth constraints in the sector. The path ahead for the sector remains clear through the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP), which took the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders to draft. READ MORE

The killing of farmers is often used to drive the idea of a “white genocide” in South Africa, and it is a theme US President Donald Trump seems to have drawn on when formulating last month’s executive order cutting off aid to South Africa. READ MORE

Farming isn’t your typical 9-to-5 gig. It’s a lifestyle that demands early mornings, late nights, and plenty of time operating machinery or walking the land. That’s where Audiocast shine. They’re hands-free, portable, and don’t care if you’re covered in dirt or steering through a muddy field. Unlike a book or a video, a Audiocast doesn’t ask you to stop what you’re doing—it joins you in the cab, the shed, or wherever the day takes you. And farmers are listening. Surveys suggest that a significant chunk of the agricultural community—some estimates say over a third—tune into ag-related podcasts regularly. Whether it’s catching up on market trends, learning about the latest in soil health, or just hearing a good story from another grower, these audio shows have become a go-to resource.
15 Best South Africa News Podcasts

The numbers tell the story: Audiocast listenership is climbing, and agriculture is no exception. By some estimates, over 100 million people in the U.S. alone are tuning into podcasts, with farmers and ranchers making up a dedicated slice of that pie. Successful ag-focused shows are racking up thousands of downloads per episode, and some are even attracting sponsors eager to reach this engaged audience.
